About OM

We are a global community of Jesus followers driven by a deep conviction that everyone deserves to hear the gospel at least once.

We partner with God to see lives and communities transformed by His love and grace, while experiencing our own transformation through faith and serving.

We are grateful to God for over 60 years of transformed lives and recognise that it is all His good work.

At the same time, there is so much more to do. We look at the world with compassion and a burden for those who have not yet heard about Jesus or experienced His love.

Looking ahead, we strive toward the ambitious goal of mobilising millions of believers who will touch hearts and lives with the love of Christ, and who in turn will form millions of vibrant communities of Jesus followers in places where God’s unceasing love has not yet taken hold.

What we do

Inspire

Our heart is to inspire you to embrace your God-given gifts and passions, for the purpose of sharing His love with the world.

Equip

We’re here to equip you with knowledge, tools and expertise so you can serve and make an impact for the glory of God.

Connect

Our goal is to connect you with opportunities to serve God, exploring your purpose and using your gifts to share His love.

Where we work

The OM family is big! From Albania to Zambia, OM has teams in over 110 countries – and our ships, Logos Hope and Doulos Hope, reach into many more.

Some teams live in booming modern cities and some live in quiet rural villages. Some are long-established while others are still in the pioneer stage.

In order of priority, we want to see God’s love shared in places where:

1

No one is sharing the life and teachings of Jesus

. . . like in Afghanistan, where the average person will hear the gospel once every 30.5 years.

2

There are no communities of Jesus followers

. . . like in Japan, where there are over 1,700 towns and villages without an evangelical church.

3

Culture, language and other barriers separate people from local Jesus followers

. . . like among the 1 million Syrian refugees in Europe.

Who we are

Our reach is global and our ministries are varied.

There’s nothing cookie-cutter about what we do and there’s nothing cookie-cutter about us.

We’re just ordinary people who bring a multitude of gifts to our work.

We are united by Jesus and our passion to love the world.

“We will press forward until every person has heard the Gospel…the world is our goal!”

OM Founder, George Verwer

Our brief history

When college student George Verwer and his two friends journeyed to Mexico to share Christ’s love in 1957, the response was overwhelming. The young men subsequently opened a Christian bookshop and launched Christian radio broadcasts there.

As the friends expanded their reach to Europe, they proclaimed the great truth that God uses His people to reach the nations. Christians rose in response, and OM was born.

Over the decades, our commitment to those who do not know God’s love has translated into a multitude of ways to share God’s love — from ministries serving refugees and the vulnerable, to international youth events and Christian art programs, to ships that travel the world to share His love and serve communities in need.

We strive to creatively shine the light of Christ in all we say and do, so that His love may reach the farthest corners of the world.

What we believe

  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the absolute deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, the authenticity of His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection and His present mediatorial work in heaven.
  • We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit. We believe He gives life, He sanctifies, He empowers and comforts all believers.
  • We believe that the Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments in their original texts, are fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, without error, and are the final authority for the Church.
  • That Adam and Eve were originally created sinless, were tempted by Satan, fell and thereby brought the whole human race under the condemnation of eternal separation from God.
  • That people are saved through repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ. Justification is through grace alone.
  • We believe that the Church is the body of Jesus Christ composed of all true believers. The present work of the Church is the worship of God, the perfecting of the saints and the evangelisation of the world.
  • We believe in the personal and bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to consummate our salvation and establish His glorious Kingdom.
