After marrying in early 1998, we were trying to work out what God had in store for us. He graciously provided us with a large home in Hornsby but what should we do with it? After prayer it was clear that at this stage we were not being led to 'go out' into mission, so why not host a prayer meeting for those who were? My (Jennifer) introduction to OM was full-on as I helped field calls regarding the ship's visit to Sydney. I was working at Koorong where the tickets for ship tours were being organised and had a crash course on the details of the ship from OMers Claire and Shane. Both mentioned that OM was in need of a prayer meeting in the Hornsby area; what a 'God-incidence'. Ross first heard about OM in the mid 1990s when a 'friend of a friend' had an information night after his first term in Central Asia, so it was an easy decision to offer our lounge as a place for prayer. Our Church - St John's Asquith - has had a number of people associated with OM. In September 1999 the first OM Hornsby prayer meeting was held and after nearly eight years, there have only been 2 meetings canceled; one due to everyone being sick and the other due to the birth of our daughter. We have anywhere from 3 to 20+ attend but mostly there are about 10. We have met many OMers who have been out in the field and it has been encouraging to hear how God has gone before them. It is amazing to see how God works in the big AND little situations, the power of prayer really does move mountains. To hear how prayers are answered is one of God's gifts. We are comfortable in being 'senders, not goers'. If everyone went out, there would be no one left back home to pray. Let God out of the box and amazing things can happen!
