Pakistan Flood Relief 2010

Pakistan ReliefLast Thursday the team working in the north ran a medical camp in Charsada in a flood relief camp with the help of a local church and treated around 220 patients.

On Friday the team ran a medical camp in Risalpur Cantt where 300 more patients were treated. The people are very appreciative for the this help and commented that the team had good quality medicines. The local pastor explained to the people that the medical team are Christians and are expressing God’s love, wanting to share His love with the flood affected people.

The team in the south have been busy preparing an intensive survey in preparation for reconstruction work.

We praise God that both teams are doing well physically. The teams have been receiving phone calls on a follow up contact number. People are calling to say, “We are thankful for what was in the food aid packs.  We are thankful to you and request you to help us in rebuilding our homes.”

During the past week 631 patients have been treated by the medical teams. We are thankful that American and Chinese medical workers have come alongside our teams so we are able to provide good medical facilities for the people.

Pakistan ReliefThe latest food distribution brought an end to our food relief activities in the north; however our team will continue to monitor the availability of food in affected areas. We are immensely thankful for the prayer support during all this time as our team has remained safe and sound.

The team will now focus on providing medical aid to keep flood victims healthy and well. Please strengthen them with your prayers.

Other team members are now having a break, please pray that it will be good time of fellowship with their families and that team members will spend quality time with the Lord.

The medical camps are running well in southern regions as two American doctors have joined the team which increases the capacity to help more patients. Medical teams are daily providing assistance to 320 people and have given nutrition to 50 pregnant and nursing mothers.

The team leader shared, “It is wonderful to see people returning to their homes, but it reminds us that the next task is bigger and more challenging; resettlement and construction of homes and infrastructure.”

The teams continue to find new families waiting for help and provide food aid packages to these families.

“There is no salvation without Essa Masih (Jesus Christ)” said one of our team volunteers. He was seeking truth for the past two years. Last month he joined our food distribution team. Today he announced that he wants to follow Essa Masih. Please pray for his spiritual growth.

In Karachi, a planned medical camp is now rescheduled due to recent riots in the city after the killing of political leader in London. Please continue your prayer for the team and the plans for the IDPs staying in the outskirts of the city.

Total Families received Food: 5344

Total Patients: 4567

Northern Team:

Pakistan Relief - ChildAfter 18 hours the truck full of ration packs reached a remote town in the north. Our team walked 20km to reach people as the road was badly damaged, planning to distribute 250 packs. Unfortunately they could only distribute 160 due to riots and the police were called in. The authorities provided guards to control the situation. The following day a man confessed “I was the one responsible for that sad incident. I feel guilty please forgive me.” He gave his details to the team and insisted they visit his home. Later the team told all the people ‘we are Christian and the reason we come to help you is because we love you and Essa (Jesus) told us to love one another.’  The team were able to distribute the rest of the food packs.

160 families returned to their badly damaged homes but others are still living in a local Christian School. As they left many expressed their thanks for your support and standing with them. They said, “We cannot forget this for the rest of our lives.” The team distributed food packs to a further 300 families and 115 patients received treatment.

In Ramadan it is forbidden to eat outside. After the distribution, team members were very hungry. It was afternoon and no food was available. Suddenly a man came to them and insisted they go to his home. He said “We have prepared a meal for you, I know you are not Muslim but you need food, please come to my home and eat.”

Sindh Team:

Thank God that the team leader is better and has returned to work.

Team members visited rural areas of Hyderabad and Kotri where the water level is still very high. Our target is to adopt 200 families and provide them with food and medical help for 2 weeks.  The Medical teams are mainly treating acute diarrhoea, acute respiratory tract infections, skin infections and high fevers.
