OM's Response to Catastrophic Monsoon Flooding in Pakistan

Record heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan have caused one of the worst disasters in Asia’s history, resulting in over 1,600 deaths and tens of thousands of villages under water.  The flooding covers an area the size of England and has destroyed crops and livelihoods which is likely to lead to famine. The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, has described the floods in Pakistan as "the worst disaster he has ever witnessed". Millions of homeless people are facing starvation and are vulnerable to cholera, fever and diarrhoea caused by contaminated flood waters.

With new flood warnings being issued and as many as 20 million people affected, OM Pakistan needs your prayer and financial support as they struggle to provide food and medical supplies to those around them. One OM Pakistan leader commented: "It is very difficult to explain in words the painful stories of the people."

OM Pakistan teams are distributing food packs to thousands of people in the north and south of the country. Medical mobile clinics are being set up to treat malaria, diarrhoea and fever, providing courses of medication. If sufficient funding is raised, mobile clinics could be provided for up to 90 days. This project would involve local and overseas doctors. OM's outreach opportunities are also expanding, limited only by lack of personnel and resources.

Please pray for Pakistan and the long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts of the country. Pray for safety, endurance and encouragement for workers as they serve and minister in difficult areas. Pray that the love of God would be evident in their efforts.
