After spending many weeks in rural communities, Doulos made its way into its last stop in Papua New Guinea, the bustling capital of Port Moresby. While the city scene in front of the ship was unfamiliar, the warm welcome was not. Crew waved to the crowds gathered on the quayside and groups performing local cultural items and music added to the spectacle. At the official opening ceremony the following day, the Governor of the National Capital District, Mr. Powe Parkop, spoke frankly of the culture as well as the struggles present in Port Moresby. Before proceeding to open Doulos he expressed his desire, “I hope your visit will remind us to put our faith in action…to build a community based on our faith in Jesus Christ.”
